Are you going dotty for the Dotty for You paper yet?  I just finished up this fun flower box using the My Creations Cube.  I just assembled it without the top party of the cube to keep it open.

The flowers were mostly cut with the Cricut CTMH Art Philosophy at 3 inches and 2 1/2 inches with the Dotty paper with the Just Blooms Paper Shapes - Paradise paper flowers attached to the center.

It was a fun and easy project.  What great centerpieces these would make for a special event.  The Cricut flowers makes quick work of it. tuesday's technique - shading with markers and sponge daubers

Hello!  This is the May Stamp of the Month, Friendship Bouquet and the Dotty For You paper from Close to my Heart.  I sponged with Sponge Daubers on the leaf to quickly add color (I stamped leaf in Olive and sponged with Sweet Leaf).  The flower was stamped with Desert Sand and I colored using Cocoa, Desert sand and Creme Brulee markers .  It's a little sloppy for my taste but I needed to knock out a few quick cards for Mother's Day.  This Mother had her sweet daughter crawling all over her crafting supplies and had to work very fast to get this done before total mayhem and destruction occurred!! 

To sponge with the daubers just place dauber over your finger, dip into color of your choice and apply to your project.  It's almost like finger painting without the paint.  It's a pretty fun tool to work with.  They are also super handy to use to apply ink to the edges of your paper for a distressed look.

florentine workshop extra extra card

I made this card with supplies left over and the stamp set from the Florentine Workshop on the Go

The star is from the Cricut CTMH Art Philosophy Collection.  The star stamp set goes right with the dimensional element so I just stamped the star with the coordnating star stamp and attached it. Then sponged the edges with ink and called it good.

 This wasn't the Derby but was the Roral Enclosure at the Royal Ascot  a few years ago. 

I was able to attend the Kentucky Derby in 2002 with sweet seats in the jockey clubhouse suites.  Between both races you can pretty much call that a "bucket list" experience!! 

 

 

 

 

furry scurry

Saturday May 5th at 9 AM is the Furry Scurry, a 2 mile walk in Washinton Park in Denver to benefit the Denver Dumb Friends League.  A fun event to check out!

I just got this card from my girlfriend Jennifer and really liked what she did with a simple design really and made it quite special.  You know me, I LOVE easy.  I am the lazy crafter.  I should have named my blog The Lazy Crafter.  Anyway, she used two sided patterned paper as her card base, embossed the flower in white and cut it out, added a brad and called it good, (after writing a sweet note).  But how easy was that?  

I am impressed and am SO stealing this idea. 

tuesday's technique - adding dimension to decorative paper with Liquid Glass

Not only is Liguid Glass awesome for adding dimesion to the polka dots (I just added blobs to each polka dot) but I also used it to attach the baker's twine.  My normal "go to" adhesive for embellishments, Glue Dots would not have have worked for this project.  I attached my twine with the Liquid Glass and since I had it out decided to add a little extra fun to my card.

tip of the day

One of my high school girlfriend's son celebrated  his first birthday last weekend.  She had me help out by snapping picture on her camera for the event.  She also had her college aged step-daughter taking pictures on another camera.  After the party she called me and thanked me so much for the quality of pictures I took.

The moral of the story?  Being a scrapbooker also makes you a better picture taker.  When working with photos like we do when scrapbooking we take into consideration composition, distracting backgrounds and the like.  So next time you enlist the help with picture taking consider choosing a scrapbooker!!

guest artist creation

This super cute card was made by my friend Jennifer Knollenberg.  She made it special for my daughter's first birthday.  What made it so special is that we took the kids to the Butterfly Pavilion so it was a perfect card to remember our visit together.  That's one reason why I love to make handmade cards, they are just so much much for meaningful than a random store bought card.  Isn't it a cute card?
