tuesday's technique - shading with markers and sponge daubers

Hello!  This is the May Stamp of the Month, Friendship Bouquet and the Dotty For You paper from Close to my Heart.  I sponged with Sponge Daubers on the leaf to quickly add color (I stamped leaf in Olive and sponged with Sweet Leaf).  The flower was stamped with Desert Sand and I colored using Cocoa, Desert sand and Creme Brulee markers .  It's a little sloppy for my taste but I needed to knock out a few quick cards for Mother's Day.  This Mother had her sweet daughter crawling all over her crafting supplies and had to work very fast to get this done before total mayhem and destruction occurred!! 

To sponge with the daubers just place dauber over your finger, dip into color of your choice and apply to your project.  It's almost like finger painting without the paint.  It's a pretty fun tool to work with.  They are also super handy to use to apply ink to the edges of your paper for a distressed look.

tuesday's technique - adding dimension to decorative paper with Liquid Glass

Not only is Liguid Glass awesome for adding dimesion to the polka dots (I just added blobs to each polka dot) but I also used it to attach the baker's twine.  My normal "go to" adhesive for embellishments, Glue Dots would not have have worked for this project.  I attached my twine with the Liquid Glass and since I had it out decided to add a little extra fun to my card.

tuesday's technique - adding dimension to stamped images with liquid glass

Today's technique is a really easy one.  Just stamp like normal then add Liquid Glass over the top.  Once it dies it adds a clear glaze and turns a just okay image to something extra special. 

I used the Roar! stamp set and superhero paper collection, all supplies from Close To My Heart.

tuesday's technique - altered frame

Here is a fun and easy project.  Grab a wooden frame from your local craft supply store (you might even be able to find them in a dollar store).  Trace and cut paper around the frame and cut out photo window.  Apply Mod Podge to the wooden frame and while it's still wet attach the paper.  Apply Mod Podge again to the paper and smooth out any bubbles with your fingers.  Let dry and add any embellishments to decorate.  I also sponged on ink to the outer edges and the frame to add color to the wood. 

I used Sparkles Flourishes, Designer Brads, Paradise Paper Flowers and Lucy paper collection all products from Close To My Heart.  If I had to pick my one favorite product in our Spring/Summer 2012 Idea Book (besides the Cricut Art Philosophy) it would definately be the Sparkles Flourishes.  $4.95 for all that sparkle and fun; I just can't get enough of it!!  

These frames make a great gift.  Don't forget to personalize with a special photo!  There is another altered frame on Jeanette Lynton's blog.

tuesday's technique - stitching

Stitching up perfect placement.  If you've ever marveled at nice even stitching or embellishments lined up in a row and wondered how to easily duplicate that look on your artwork, here is your problem solved!  This new clear rulerfrom Close to My Heart is 14" long and includes measurements in inches and provides a zig zag and straight stitching guide as well as a metal edge for cutting.  Use a piercing tool to make holes for hand-stitching with floss, hemp or waxy flax.  You can also precisely place brads or eyelets.

tuesday's technique - masking

Masking is the way to create a dimensional or layered look.  This technique will help your stamped art look like your images are in front ir behind each other.  You'll do this by creating a "mask".  Start by stamping the desired image.  Now stamp it again on scrap paper (i love using Post It notes with their sticky bit).  Cut out the scrap, this will be the mask.  Now just place this mask over the original image to protect it from being stamped on and stamp your second impression.  When you remove the mask it will reveal that the second image looks like it is behind the first.  Neat-o!

My personal reccomendation is to select stamps that are fairly easy to cut out and not too intricate for this particular technique.
