anniversary card

Remember the 50th anniversary I went to San Diego for?   Here is the card I made, I also double dutied it by teaching it at a card class last month, as well.  Work smarter, not harder I say.  I love that I can use my personal creations and turn around and use in my business.  It's like getting paid to craft!

  

Like I said I used it for a class I taught and it got a little beat up.  I just didn't have a spare second to snap a photo before I sent the good one off.  This was my sample and was really just a "sloppy copy" but you can get the idea here.  I used the Stella paper collection, Card Word Puzzle stamp set (one of my favs, super versatile), Sunset Mini-Medley,and Shimmer Brads. (All Close To My Heart supplies)  If you re-create a flower like this one be sure to stamp several and cut them out and stack them to add dimension.  I also used foam tape in between the layers to stack it up. I folded the paper strip at 1 inch, 1 1/2 inch, 2 1/2 inch, 3 inch, 4 inch, 4 1/2 inch and so on.  It makes for a neat paper pleat.  It's good for scrapbooking too.  If you want one to reach across a whole 12 inch page you'll need to attach two strips together.  Shop online at https://cherielynn.myctmh.com

how to haggle like a pro

If you are like me, I hate shopping flea markets and antique shops because of the price game.  You don't want to insult the seller but you also don't want to over-pay either.  I know it's the way it goes so here's what I do, just ask "is this price negotiable"?  Now just offer less than you'd be willling to pay.  If it's marked $100 but your buy it for $80, offer $60 and work up from there.

Tips to keep you lookin' good on the beach...

Love the beach, hate the sand? To get stick on sand off, sprinkle baby powder into a dry towel and rub swiftly to remove stuck-on sand.

To look your best in swimsuit photos, suck in your stomach, arch out your bum, stand slightly sideways, and keep your weight on the front leg so the muscle is flexed.  I'm thinking I'd better pratice this a few times, but it's advice from the trainer of Victoria Beckham so it must work, then again isn't she tiny?  What on earth could she be sucking in? 

Highlight your tan with a fun orange pedicure. 

Don't forget your sunscreen!

I just found this great site that has all TSA approved sized beauty products.  Perfect for those of us on the go or even if you're just a curious to try some new products.  They do lots of high end stuff like Molten Brown, Phyto and Spa Rituals.  It's called 3 fl oz named for the TSA three ounce rule for liquids brought on-board the airplane.  You can only bring liquids, gels or creams of three ounces or less in a one quart sized baggy in your cabin carry-on bag on airplanes.  You can still bring unlimted sizes in your checked luggage.

fitness on the "road"

I always try to get in some form of exercise while I am out flying.  It helps to reduce stress and jet lag.  Walk laps on the concourse while waiting for your flight or do yoga and light stretching in your hotel room.  Some hotels even have a fitness channel on the TV.  Even if your hotel doesn't have a gym you can still stick with a fitness program.  You'll be glad you did, especially when the desert tray shows up.

Did you know... you should wear sunscreen even when you fly?  Airplane windows don't filter out UVA rays.  At high altitudes, the UV rays are 3x stronger than on the ground.  The UVA rays are the ones that cause wrinkles, dryness, sagging skin, hyperpigmentation, and pre-mature aging.  

how to haggle

It's almost the summer market season.  If you love it like I do but hate the process of haggling here is a little guide to make it go a little easier.

First decide up front how much you are willing to pay.  At bigger markets some vendors will have the same items that will make comparison shopping easier.

Find out the asking price.  Sometimes the salesperson will start by offering your a special deal straightaway.

Counteroffer less than the asking price.  The salesperson will likely respond with a higher price.

Politely thank them and slowly walk away instead of making another counteroffer.  They will most likely offer you a lower price.

Decide if this is a price you are willing to pay.
